Conflicting parties in Ukraine to mark mine clearance zones by 31 March

MINSK, 2 March (BelTA) – The conflicting parties in Ukraine will mark mine clearance zones by 31 March, BelTA learned from Martin Sajdik, the OSCE chairperson-in-office's special representative in the trilateral contact group on Ukraine, on 2 March.

“The trilateral contact group has signed a resolution on demining efforts. It is stated that by 31 March the armed forces and units of all the sides will mark, fence, and map the areas, which are to be demined,” said Martin Sajdik.

In his words, these areas are in direct proximity to the checkpoints civilians can use along the contact line and are located along the roads that lead to those checkpoints.

The sides have also undertaken to raise the public awareness about the danger of mines. “The overall coordination of mine clearance efforts will be handled by the joint control and coordination center with assistance of the OSCE's special monitoring mission,” added Martin Sajdik.
