Belarus calls on EU to lift remaining restrictive measures

MINSK, 22 May (BelTA) - Belarus calls on the European Union to lift the remaining restrictive measures, Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at the meeting with Ambassadors-at-Large for the Eastern Partnership representing the EU member states on 22 May, BelTA has learned.

“We regret that in February the EU prolonged its restrictive measures against Belarus, which have long lost any practical rationale. To that and, we continue to call on the EU to lift the remaining restrictive measures,” the minister said.

Vladimir Makei stressed that the bilateral positive engagement over the recent years has brought far more positive results than the previous two decades of sanctions. The minister praised the exclusion of sports shooting weapons from the arms embargo as a step in this direction.

The Belarusian foreign minister also welcomed the EU intention to expand the relations with Belarus and put them on a structured footing.
