Subsidies for Ukrainian farmers to buy Belarusian machines under consideration

MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) – Ukraine is toying with the idea of giving subsidies to farmers to buy Belarusian machines and vehicles. The statement was made by Gennady Zubko, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities of Ukraine, after the session of the Belarusian-Ukrainian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation on 10 November, BelTA has learned.

The official said: “As far as manufacturing cooperation in the production sector is concerned, it is important for us to gather in more crops in conditions of the strong agribusiness industry. It can be done by making more Belarusian machines and vehicles in Ukraine and by giving farmers subsidies to buy them.”

Municipal budgets in Ukraine were virtually doubled after the country's budget was decentralized. This is why municipal government agencies have a greater control over the acquisition of machines and vehicles. This is why Gennady Zubko suggested building tighter relations at the interregional level: between Minsk and Kiev, Mozyr and Vinnitsa or Lvov. The potential for tourism exchange is underappreciated, too, the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine believes.

“Belarus is a strategic partner for Ukraine. We would like to keep the status,” he stated.

The next session of the Belarusian-Ukrainian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation will take place in Kiev.
