Stadler Minsk plans to start producing trains for Minsk metro in 2018

FANIPOL, 1 August (BelTA) – The train factory Stadler Minsk plans to launch the production of trains for the Minsk metro in 2018, CEO of Stadler Minsk Philipp Brunner told the media during the presentation of the first batch of Metelitsa trams for St. Petersburg on 1 August, BelTA has learned.

“The work to design trains for the Minsk metro is in the pipeline. There are plans to launch the production of metro cars in 2018 and supply the first trains in Q1 2018. We need to manufacture 10 trains, a total of 44 metro cars,” Philipp Brunner remarked.

He continued to speak about the projects carried out in cooperation with foreign partners. The company is working out design documentation to produce trams that will be exported to Ostrava, Czechia. Stadler Minsk plans to start making the trams in Q4 2017. Another task on the agenda is to manufacture single-deck trains for a Norwegian customer and double-decker trains for a Hungarian one.

Stadler Minsk has already sold 11 double-decker trains to the Russian transport company Aeroexpress.

Philipp Brunner highlighted that the matter of selling Stadler Minsk's transport vehicles into Belarus is still relevant.

Located in the town of Fanipol near Minsk, Stadler Minsk is a resident company of FEZ Minsk and is part of the Swiss Stadler Rail Group. The factory produces trams for broad-gauge rail networks of the CIS countries.
