Russia's Oryol Oblast intends to double trade with Belarus

MOSCOW, 30 January (BelTA) - Russia's Oryol Oblast intends to double trade with Belarus in the near future, acting Governor of Oryol Oblast Andrei Klychkov told the media following the negotiations with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Belarus to Russia Igor Petrishenko in Moscow on 30 January, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus is a key partner for us,” Andrei Klychkov noted. “We see a positive trend in mutual trade, and we aim to reach the trade we had in 2012, which was record high in our cooperation,” he noted.

In 2012 the trade between Belarus and Oryol Oblast amounted to $200 million. In 2017 it stood around $100 million.

According to Andrei Klychkov, in cooperation with Belarus the Russian region is interested in agriculture, industry, and social and cultural exchanges.

“In 2018 Oryol Oblast will celebrate the 200th anniversary of writer Ivan Turgenev, the 75th anniversary of the Oryol-Kursk battle. We are gearing up to celebrate these events on a large scale and we certainly look forward to seeing our Belarusian friends at these celebrations,” Andrei Klytchkov said

The head of the region invited the Belarusian partners to take part in the Day of Field events traditionally held in the region in early July and to showcase their equipment.
