MP: Belarus, Russia should solve economic issues as equals

MINSK, 10 March (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia should solve economic issues as equals, Deputy Chairman of the Permanent Commission for International Affairs of the House of Representatives Dmitry Shevtsov told BelTA.

“If we say that Russia and Belarus are not just border countries, but sister nations partaking in associations that involve quite a deep level of integration, then issues should not be solved through an “elder brother-younger brother” approach. The parties should start negotiations, as we see some issues have remained unsolved for a long time already. The Belarusian side is ready to discuss all problems, listen to our partners' arguments, and try to reach a consensual solution,” Dmitry Shevtsov believes.

He also stressed that countries involved in integration processes usually try to adapt to each other, make amendments to their legislation, or, if necessary, help each other or compromise. “As we move forward, we should work for the benefit of bilateral relations. It is more like a two-way road, not just a one-way track,” Dmitry Shevtsov thinks.
