More warehouse space in Belarusian logistics hubs by year end

MINSK, 7 October (BelTA) – Warehouse space in logistics hubs in Belarus will increase by nearly 30% by the end of 2015, BelTA learned from Natalia Zhamoitina, Belarusian Deputy Transport and Communications Minister, during the session of the working group on transport, logistics, and customs affairs under the Representation of the German Economy in Belarus on 7 October.

According to the source, the Transport and Communications Ministry is working hard to raise the country's transit appeal. At present the warehouse space in Belarusian logistics hubs equals 540,000m2. Another 160,000m2 will be added by the end of the year.

The session of the working group on transport, logistics, and customs affairs under the Representation of the German Economy in Belarus was part of the Belarusian Transport Week. Participants of the session discussed cooperation in transport and logistics, in particular, Belarusian Railways' potential for enabling cargo transportation between China and Europe, peculiarities of road transportation in Belarus, and the latest changes in the Eurasian Economic Union's customs laws.

Speaking about cooperation with Germany in transport and logistics, Natalia Zhamoitina explained that since the beginning of the year Belarusian transportation and logistics service providers have signed about 1,000 agreements on cooperation with German logistic companies. The volume of orders for transport and forwarding services is already close to 25% of the total number of orders received by Belarusian international trucking companies. As many as 385 Belarusian transport companies have a share of German capital in their charter fund.

The Belarusian Deputy Transport and Communications Minister also drew attention to the project to create the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone in Belarus. The park is supposed to become a logistics hub for the Silk Road Economic Belt initiative.

The Belarusian Transport Week 2015 will end on 8 October. The forum features specialized international expos focusing on transport and logistics, logistics engineering, transport infrastructure in addition to the 9th Belarusian Transport and Logistics Congress. This year products and services of over 200 companies from Germany, Austria, Kazakhstan, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and other European countries are on display.
