Mogilev-based company Domochay to start exporting to European Union in H2 2018

MOGILEV, 20 June (BelTA) – The Mogilev-based producer of confectionery and bakery products Domochay intends to start selling deep-frozen confectionery and bakery products to the European Union in H2 2018, the company's Director General Natalya Podlesnykh told BelTA.

The company's CEO said: “We've done a lot of work to reach this promising and capacious market. It was quite hard considering the toughest kind of competition. Suffice it to say that the negotiations took about four years. Our products had to go through rigorous quality inspections and managed to satisfy consumers' tastes. Our German partner, who owns a retail chain in European Union member states, is ready to import our products in rather large amounts. The necessary permission documents are being prepared now.”

According to Natalya Podlesnykh, the market of the European Union has a lot of promise. “Europeans, who sampled our products at expos, truly appreciated the excellent taste, benefits, and high quality of Belarusian products. For instance, the key advantage of frozen bread is that it is simple to store and cook. The bread can be prepared within five minutes and comes with magnificent taste and smell,” she said.

Domochay Company puts a lot of effort into export diversification. Although Russia is the main buyer of Domochay products, the share of other countries gradually rises and has already gone beyond 40%. Shipments to Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and other post-Soviet countries are on the rise. The company's products are also shipped to the USA and Israel. Work is in progress to penetrate other target markets, too.

The enterprise was established as the Mogilev bakery in 1927. It evolved into the Mogilev Oblast Baking Industry Group in 1972 as part of the efforts to improve the structure and concentrate production assets of the BSSR Food Industry Ministry. The industrial group was renamed into RUPP Mogilevkhlebprom in 2001. The enterprise was converted into the public joint-stock company (OAO) Bakery and Confectionary Company Domochay in 2013. At present Domochay Company employs over 2,500 people.
