Measures to increase Belarus' export, find new markets insufficient for now

MINSK, 24 November (BelTA) – The measures being taken to increase export and find new target markets are insufficient for now, BelTA learned from Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov during the session of the Council of Ministers Presidium on 24 November.

In January-September 2015 Belarus' export of merchandise and services totaled 75.4% as against the same period of last year. This is why the Belarusian head of government pointed out that the measures, which are being taken to increase export and find new target markets, are insufficient for now. It is necessary to further concentrate efforts in this field. Andrei Kobyakov also remarked that while export is falling in cost terms due to the unfavorable prices for a number of commodities on foreign markets, sales of several commodities are skyrocketing in physical terms, for instance, oil products, milk and cream, cheese and curds.

The head of government stated that merchandise export to new promising market continues demonstrating positive dynamics. It reached $664 million in January-September 2015 or 118.4% as against the same period of last year. Andrei Kobyakov also underlined the steady trend of foreign trade surplus. It totaled $1.2 billion in January-September 2015 or 2.9% of the GDP.

An increase in shipments to Asia and Africa has been registered. Export to Eastern Asia rose by 27.4%, with export to China up by 37.8%. Export to Africa grew by 8.9%. Belarusian products are also in demand in Central and North America, with export up by 12.6%.
