MAZ, Amkodor plan to set up assembly plants in Pakistan

MINSK, 23 September (BelTA) – Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ trademark) and the mechanical engineering company Amkodor seek to gain a foothold in the market of Pakistan. Opportunities for the implementation of a number of projects were discussed with a government delegation of Pakistan's Punjab Province led by Punjab Deputy Minister of Industries Khalid Sherdil in Minsk on 22 September, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Industry Ministry.

The parties discussed the possibility of opening in Punjab a distribution office of the Belarusian enterprises, which may be followed by the establishment of an assembly plant. The joint ventures will enjoy a number of preferences. They will be given land and will be exempted from import duties on equipment and from taxes for ten years.

Punjab is Pakistan's most industrialized province. It has the lowest rate of poverty amongst all Pakistani provinces. Punjab has a well-developed agriculture. It accounts for some 60% of the country's GDP.
