Belarusian footwear manufacturer Marko unveils major investment plans for Uzbekistan

VITEBSK, 15 October (BelTA) – Belarus' footwear producer Marko has plans to implement two investment projects in Uzbekistan to set up footwear manufacturing facilities that will be able to produce over 1 million pairs of shoes per year, BelTA learned from company director Nikolai Martynov.

Founding documents for one of such companies have already been submitted for registration. Marko will start this business from scratch. The new company will specialize in special-purpose protective footwear and in the future it will also produce fancy shoes. According to preliminary estimates, the company will manufacture up to 600,000 pairs of shoes annually; about 500 jobs will be created. The facility will go online in H1 2019 and will reach its full capacity by 2019 yearend after the second manufacturing line ordered in Germany will be installed. The articles of incorporation were signed during the international exhibition UzCharmExpo “Leather, Footwear, Clothing & Accessories" and the 3rd international exhibition MaxsusExpo "Industrial Safety and Labor Protection Footwear and Clothing” that took place in Tashkent in early October.

Preliminary arrangements were reached on Marko's participation in the upgrade of one of local companies on partnership terms. “We will get a share in one of existing enterprises that we will upgrade technically and technologically and commission,” Nikolai Martynov informed. This enterprise will employ up to 500 people, while its manufacturing capacity will exceed 500,000 pairs of shoes annually.
