MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – The Belarusian veterinary oversight system is very effective, Cai Baoliang, Director of the Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau of China's Jiangsu Province, told reporters on 28 October, BelTA has learned.
“In late September, Belarus and China signed an agreement in agriculture on future supplies of Belarusian beef to China. To speed up the implementation of this project, we have come to Belarus at the invitation of the Agriculture and Food Ministry to examine the country's veterinary oversight system. We have met with representatives of the Agriculture and Food Ministry, attended a presentation about the Belarusian veterinary oversight service, and visited four meat-packing plants in four regions, three farms and several laboratories. We think that the Belarusian veterinary oversight system is very effective,” Cai Baoliang stressed.
The expert noted that Belarus has a well-developed legal framework in the field of veterinary control. “The quality management system at the plants that we have visited is very good. It meets all the requirements,” he said.
Cai Baoliang pointed out that Belarus and China have similar laws regulating the veterinary oversight activities. Still, there is a need to exchange some practices. “We will prepare a final report with conclusions and recommendations for further development of cooperation. We have no doubts that Belarusian beef is of a high quality, and hope to see it on the Chinese market in the near future,” he said.
A group of Chinese experts has recently visited four Belarusian meat-packing plants in Brest Oblast, Grodno Oblast, Minsk Oblast and Mogilev Oblast. Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats said that Belarus hopes to launch supplies of products of nine enterprises to the Chinese market as a result of this inspection.
