Belarusian dairy products expected to continue selling well in Russia

MINSK, 14 November (BelTA) – Belarusian dairy products will keep their positions on the Russian market due to their popularity, including the popularity of Belarusian cheeses, BelTA learned from Aleksei Bogdanov, Head of the Central Office for Foreign Economic Activities of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry, in response to Russian plans to stop importing cheese completely.

The official said: “We are aware of the statements made by Russia. Moreover, during a dairy industry forum early this year we warned our producers that Russia intends to increase the output of dairy products, including cheese. We have no doubt that the Russian side will honor its promises. Yet I'd like to note that domestic products and imports are always present on any market. This is why I think that the popularity of Belarusian dairy products as a whole and cheeses in particular on the Russian market will allow them to hold on to the market.”

Aleksei Bogdanov admitted that the share of Belarusian products on the Russian market may change. “But on the whole we will keep the market. Together with Russian producers we will promote our products to third-country markets as part of the general concept for developing the Eurasian Economic Union merchandise export. It will secure equal incomes for us and a mutual interest in manufacturing the products,” he said.
