Belarus wants EAEU product traceability mechanism launched as soon as possible

KAZAN, 26 May (BelTA) – Belarus would like the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) to launch its product traceability mechanism as soon as possible, Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov told the media after the session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Kazan on 26 May, BelTA has learned.

“One of the problems that was discussed at the session and emphasized by the Belarusian side was the slow work to carry out the instructions of the heads of state to launch a mechanism for tracking the movement of goods in the Eurasian Economic Union. The issue is not a simple one, and it influences the business environment,” Andrei Kobyakov noted.

Each of the countries approaches this initiative in its own way. However, the first projects on traceability of products should be implemented as early as 2018. “If we do not agree now, this may create additional barriers and exceptions in mutual trade,” Andrei Kobyakov noted. Therefore, the heads of government agreed to take this issue “under manual control” and continue this discussion at the next meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council.

Andrei Kobyakov paid a working visit to the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation on 25 and 26 May. The Belarusian prime minister met with Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov on 25 May. He also visited Technopolis Himgrad, Kazanorgsintez, and Kazan Arena. Andrei Kobyakov told the media that Belarus hopes to boost the trade and economic cooperation and implement new cooperation projects with the Russian region.

The head of government attended sessions of the CIS Heads of Government Council and the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council. Besides, Andrei Kobyakov had bilateral meetings with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan.
