Belarus to resume rapeseed oil export, sell more marshmallows to Israel

MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) – Belarus intends to resume rapeseed oil export to Israel in addition to exporting more marshmallows, representatives of the Embassy of Belarus in Israel told BelTA.

An official delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Rusy visited Israel on 21-22 May. The delegation took part in the sixth session of the Belarusian-Israeli committee on trade and economic cooperation.

While in Israel the deputy prime minister visited the office of the Israeli company Eurostandart, which cooperates with Belarus using distributor schemes. The sides discussed prospects of expanding the choice of Belarusian food exports sold to Israel.

Meanwhile, a group of representatives of the Belarusian private sector worked in Israel under the aegis of the Minsk branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI). The delegation included top executives of Bobruisk Vegetable Oils Factory, Krasny Pischevik, Kommunarka, Slodych, and Minsk Kristall Group. Representatives of the Belarusian companies held a number of negotiations at premises of the Beer Sheba and Negev Chamber of Commerce and Industry to discuss the export of a broad range of Belarusian agribusiness products to the Israeli market. Agreements were reached on resuming the export of rapeseed oil to Israel, increasing the shipment of marshmallows, chocolate and confectionery products, and expanding the product range of distilled spirits.

The visit ended with a meeting of the official part and the business part of the Belarusian delegation with top officials of the Israel-Belarus Chamber of Commerce. Representatives of the Israeli private sector, in particular, owners of the Freshmarket retail chain and China Motors Ltd. Company, took part in the meeting. Ways to start selling a number of Belarusian products in Israel were discussed.

Ambassador of Belarus to Israel Vladimir Skvortsov described the session of the Belarusian-Israeli committee on trade and economic cooperation as a culminating event of the bilateral agenda of the year. The event will make a large contribution to determining the algorithm for Belarus-Israel cooperation in the near future. “The topics we discussed cover a broad range of cooperation. Quite a representative composition of the Belarusian delegation, negotiations with heads of Israeli ministries confirm the mutual interest in the dialogue. We believe that in the near future the agreements we have reached will advance us in a number of cooperation areas,” he stated.

The ambassador pointed out that both sides held a positive opinion of the potential Belarus and Israel have for a further increase in the mutual trade in merchandise and services. Apart from that, the sides share a common vision of real prospects of cooperation in such areas as investment, science and technology, tourism, healthcare, and information technologies.

“Naturally, consolidated efforts on the part of government agencies and commercial entities of both countries will be required to practically implement the plans. The sides noted with satisfaction that sessions of the Belarusian-Israeli committee on trade and economic cooperation are now held regularly. Their mechanism is getting better while the circle of participants and the scope of the discussed topics grow larger every time,” stated Vladimir Skvortsov.
