Belarus searching for investors for four state-run companies

MINSK, 18 September (BelTA) – The National Agency of Investment and Privatization of Belarus has announced the search for strategic investors for the following state-owned companies: 8 Marta and Lenta (light industry) and Krion and Lakokraska (chemical industry), BelTA learned from the National Agency of Investment and Privatization.

The agency hired financial advisors who will do the search. The financial advisors are companies of high standing in the international business community.

Investment models envisage the purchase of state-owned stock, the purchase of newly issued shares, and establishment of joint ventures where an investor will have a majority stake. Other common investment models will also be considered.

Krion is Belarus' leading producer of industrial and medical gases with the market share of over 60%. Lakokraska is a major producer of paintwork materials; its market share is 27%. Lenta is among the country's biggest manufacturers of haberdashery, industrial and technical textile accessories and medical dressings. 8 Marta is one of the leading producers of clothing, accessories and legwear.

The financial advisors will be engaged in pre-privatization and search for strategic investors. They will be supported by the National Agency of Investment and Privatization, the Economy Ministry, the State Property Committee, the Belneftekhim Concern and the Bellegprom Concern.

The work on pre-privatization and the search for strategic investors is done within the framework of the Belarus Privatization Technical Assistance Project supported by the World Bank.
