Belarus, Kazakhstan to step up cooperation to develop digital transport corridors

MINSK, 29 November (BelTA) – Belarus and Kazakhstan will step up cooperation in the development of digital transport corridors to Western and Northern Europe, BelTA learned from First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vasily Matyushevsky after the Belarusian-Kazakhstani business forum on 29 November.

“We have to double the volume of container transit traffic. We have an ambitious plan we are pleased to support — transporting 1 million containers per annum by 2020 and 2 million by 2025. Conventional approaches are unlikely to be effective. Our partners are interested in getting their containers to reach Western Europe within roughly two weeks on the average. Without modern digital technologies for transit, customs clearance and so on it will be technically impossible,” explained Vasily Matyushevsky.

In his words, this is why the decision in favor of active cooperation in the development of digital transport corridors was made. “It is a monumental task, in which our Chinese partners and other partners of our Kazakhstani colleagues are involved. We will get our Polish and German colleagues involved in order to get the desired result — corridors to Western and Northern Europe,” said Vasily Matyushevsky.
