Belarus' exports to UAE soar in 2016

MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) – Belarus considerably increased its exports to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2016, Belarus' Ambassador to the UAE Roman Golovchenko said in an interview to the ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“The news is great. There is something we can take pride in. Over the past year the Belarusian exports to the UAE went up by 123% in comparison with 2015. We have been gradually occupying high-technology positions. We have been witnessing a serious growth in the export of chemical and petrochemical products. Belarusian food products have been also finding way to the Middle East market,” the diplomat said.

Roman Golovchenko noted that Belarus is looking for new forms of cooperation with the UAE. The two countries set up joint companies. Belarusian companies have been gaining their footing on the UAE market. “We see big prospects in the export of Belarusian pharmaceutical products and medical services to the UAE market,” the Ambassador said.

Businessmen from the UAE also show interest in Belarus. “Belarus' new visa rules for the UAE citizens have already been bringing benefits. This has contributed to the investment interest and the increase in tourist arrivals,” the diplomat added.

As BelTA informed earlier, in autumn 2016 Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko paid a visit to the Middle East region, including the UAE. The parties confirmed interest in strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation on a wide range of issues and updated the list of projects which successful implementation would soon take the trade and investment cooperation of the two countries onto a new level.
