Belarus, China to deepen interregional trade and economic contacts

MINSK, 28 March (BelTA) – Belarus and China are set to deepen interregional trade and economic cooperation, First Deputy Economy Minister of Belarus Andrei Kartun said as he met with Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee Wang Bin, BelTA learned from the press service of the Economy Ministry of Belarus.

The parties focused on efforts to expand interregional trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, including sister city relations between Grodno Oblast and Hainan Province.

“Hainan Province is twinned with Grodno Oblast; an agreement on sister city relations and trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation was signed in 2020. We expect active and effective interaction with Hainan Province,” said Andrei Kartun.

According to the first deputy minister, Belarus is one of the building blocks of the Belt and Road Initiative.

“A very ambitious cooperation project is running in our country - the Great Stone Industrial Park. Currently, 130 resident companies from 14 countries are registered there; the total amount of declared investments is about $1.5 billion; there are plans to create about 15,000 new jobs. Belarus would like to see enterprises from Hainan Province among resident companies of the Great Stone Industrial Park as well as new large-scale high-tech projects,” the first deputy economy minister emphasized.

The Chinese side showed interest in cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port and the use of its infrastructure to promote trade and economic contacts between Belarus and China.
