Belarus' central bank considering further cuts in refinancing rate in 2017

MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) - Belarus' National Bank is considering reducing the refinancing rate by 1-2 percentage points before the end of the year, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Belarusian National Bank Taras Nadolny told the media in the run-up to the roundtable meeting “Belarus' Banking Sector: Recovery Round the Corner”, BelTA has learned.

According to Taras Nadolny, the National Bank is considering further cuts in the refinancing rate by the end of the year. “The refinancing rate may be decreased by 1-2 percentage points,” he said.

The refinancing rate of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus was reduced from 15% to 14% per annum on 19 April. That was the fourth time the refinancing rate was revised downward since the start of 2017. Previously, it was reduced from 18% to 17% on 18 January, from 17% to 16% on 15 February, and from 16% to 15% on 15 March.
