Assembly of Belarusian tractors in Russia's Irkutsk Oblast under consideration

MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) – An enterprise to assemble Belarus brand tractors may be set up in Irkutsk Oblast. The statement was made by Governor of Russia's Irkutsk Oblast Sergei Levchenko during his tour of Minsk Tractor Works (MTZ), the company's press service told BelTA.

Sergei Levchenko underlined that Irkutsk Oblast farmers have a strong interest in Belarus tractors. Apart from cooperation in delivering the machines it is possible to start a joint assembly enterprise in the Russian region. “We are ready to consider various options ranging from direct deliveries to the organization of an assembly enterprise. We will consider all the proposals,” stressed the Irkutsk Oblast Governor.

Sergei Levchenko said that a territory for outstripping social and economic development under the name of Usolye-Sibirskoye had been established in Irkutsk Oblast. Special tax regulations are in effect in the territory. The Governor suggested that the Belarusian tractor company should exploit the opportunity.

Irkutsk Oblast farmers use over 3,000 tractors, with 60% of them made by MTZ. Plans have been made to start ploughing large unused areas in Irkutsk Oblast as from 2017. The Russian region will resume leasing programs and investment projects for the sake of the project. The measures will contribute to higher sales of tractors, believes the Irkutsk Oblast government.

Sergei Levchenko also said that Irkutsk Oblast would be interested in buying forestry machines from Belarusian MTZ.
