Agriculture ministry: Belarus does not import eggs from Europe

MINSK, 4 August (BelTA) – Belarus does not import eggs from Europe, the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA.

“Belarus does not import eggs. The country is self-sufficient in this product. Moreover, we export approximately 60% of eggs we produce,” the ministry noted and added that Belarus does not export eggs to Europe. Therefore there are no Belarusian-produced eggs among the toxic eggs discovered in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.

The ministry also noted that domestic poultry farms do not use toxic super potent substances to protect birds against parasitic insect.

As news agencies reported, several million eggs were removed from shelves in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany as tests showed high levels of fipronil, a toxic insecticide banned from use in the production of food for human consumption.
