MINSK, 8 January (BelTA) – The Christmas Amateur Ice Hockey Tournament in Minsk is a real festival of ice hockey, head of the Lithuanian Ice Hockey Federation Dainius Zubrus, who played for Baltics Team, told mass media, BelTA has learned.
Dainius Zubrus took part in the Christmas tournament for the first time. He praised the level of organization of the event in Minsk calling it top-notch. “It is wonderful to play with the stands full of spectators who support all the teams,” Dainius Zubrus noted. “The match against the hosts was very challenging. It is difficult to play against such a strong opponent. Baltics Team did their best,” he added.
The renowned Lithuanian forward, who played more than 1,000 matches in the NHL, said that he was happy to meet all his colleagues from the NHL clubs and Russian clubs in Minsk.
Dainius Zubrus, 40, was born in Elektrenai, Lithuania. In 1996, he debuted in the NHL. He also played for Lada Togliatti. Last season, Dainius Zubrus led the Lithuanian national team into Division I of Group A of the World Championship. In April-May, Lithuania will play Belarus to advance to the elite division of the world ice hockey.
