Belarusians reach UIPM 2024 Pentathlon World Cup semifinal in Hungary

MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) – Belarusian athletes are competing in the UIPM 2024 Pentathlon World Cup in Budapest, Hungary, BelTA has learned.

Two out of four Belarusian athletes progressed to the women’s individual final. Mariya Gnedtchik was among the best in the Qualifications C laser run to reach the semifinal in the second position. The Belarusian reached the finals in the previous World Cup legs. Anastasiya Prokopenko was the best in the Qualifications B fencing to make it into the semifinal in the seventh position following her performance in swimming and laser run.

In Qualifications A Volha Silkina finished 15th while Anastasiya Malashenoka 18th among 28 participants. The qualifications featured a total of 84 athletes, 36 of whom progressed to the semifinals. The women’s semifinals are slated for 25 April. 

The men’s events in Budapest are kicking off on 24 April, with Maksim Maruk and Artem Evstigneev representing Belarus.

The 2024 Pentathlon World Cup is a qualifier for the 2024 Paris Olympics. All the points earned at five World Cup legs will be considered in the world rankings to give the nine best performers (among men and women apiece) the opportunity to qualify for the Olympics.
