Sasnovich loses in Cincinnati

MINSK, 15 August (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 47 Aliaksandra Sasnovich lost to world number one Naomi Osaka of Japan 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 2-6 in the second round of the 2019 edition of the Western & Southern Open, BelTA has learned.

In the opener the Belarusian saw off Australia's world number 99 Astra Sharma 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.

Earlier, Belarus' world number nine Aryna Sabalenka progressed into the third round after securing a confident win over China's world number 39 Zheng Saisai 6-4, 6-3. Belarus' world number 40 Victoria Azarenka lost to Croatia's world number 26 Donna Vekic 2-6, 5-7.

In the women's doubles opener Aryna Sabalenka and Belgium's Elise Mertens lost to the French duo of Alize Cornet and Kristina Mladenovic 6-4, 2-6, 6-10.
