Sabalenka reaches Dubai quarterfinal

MINSK, 10 March (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 8 Aryna Sabalenka has secured her second win at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships seeing off Estonia's world number 24 Anett Kontaveit 6-3, 6-2, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian will next play either Poland's world number 15 Iga Swiatek or Spain's world number 16 Garbine Muguruza for a spot in the semifinal. Aryna Sabalenka kicked off her campaign at the 2021 Dubai Tennis Championships with a 6-2, 6-4 win over France's world number 59 Alize Cornet.

In the doubles round of Last 16 Aryna Sabalenka and Belgium's Elise Mertens will take on the American duo of Jessica Pegula and Bethanie Mattek-Sands. The Belarusian-Georgian tandem of Lidziya Marozava and Oksana Kalashnikova lost 7-6 (7-1), 0-6, 6-10 to the Russian-Romanian duo of Anastasia Potapova and Monica Niculesku in Last 32.

In the 2021 Open 13 Provence round of Last 32 in Marseille, France world number 76 Egor Gerasimov of Belarus will take on Germany's world number 105 Yannick Hanfmann. The winner will face Russia's world number 3 Daniil Medvedev in the round of Last 16.

In the doubles opener in Doha Belarus' Andrei Vasilevsky and Israel's Jonathan Erlich lost to the French duo of Jeremy Chardu and Fabrice Martin 2-6, 2-6.

The tournaments in Dubai and Doha will be over on 13 March, the competitions in Marseille – on 14 March.
