Prokopenko reelected chairman of Belarusian Modern Pentathlon Federation

MINSK, 16 December (BelTA) - An extraordinary election conference of the Belarusian Modern Pentathlon Federation took place at the headquarters of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus. Chairman Mikhail Prokopenko has been reelected to the post of the Chairman of the Federation until 2024, BelTA learned from the press service of the National Olympic Committee.

Leonid Denisenko, the director of the National Olympic Water Sports Training Center, and Aleksandr Ignatiyev, the first deputy head of the main sport and tourism department of the Minsk City Hall, were named his deputies.

During the conference, reports were presented by the chairman and deputy chairman of the federation and the auditing committee.

Mikhail Prokopenko thanked the members of the federation for their trust and expressed confidence in the successful implementation of the tasks set, the main of which is the organization of the 2021 World Modern Pentathlon Championships in Minsk at a high level. The chairman also set an ambitious goal, which is a successful performance of athletes at the 32nd Olympic Games in Tokyo. “Thanks to joint coordinated work, your support and sporting will to win, we will overcome difficulties, implement our plans, achieve our goals and the highest results,” said the chairman.

The Belarusian pentathletes have won medals at the Olympics twice. Pavel Dovgal won bronze at the Sydney Olympics. Anastasiya Prokopenko won bronze at the Beijing 2008. She got the medal after the IOC decided to disqualify Ukrainian Victoria Tereshchuk in March 2017. The doping sample recheck of the Lugansk native showed the presence of turinabol.
