Opinion: Belarus needs ultra-modern swimming pool

MINSK, 7 August (BelTA) – Belarus needs an ultra-modern swimming pool, Olympic medalist in swimming (two silver, one bronze) Aliaksandra Herasimenia told BelTA.

“Belarus should have an ultramodern world-class swimming pool to host competitions and train athletes. The national swimming team constantly moves from one facility to another, it needs a permanent residence. I believe that the swimming pool to be built soon will become home to the national team. This will be wonderful,” Aliaksandra Herasimenia said. She added that it is also important to open swimming pools in all parts of Belarus.

Belarus plans to build a swimming pool in place of the Krasnaya Zvezda printing house (near Molodyozhnaya metro station) using China's technical and economic assistance. The swimming pool will be built in compliance with the FINA requirements. The construction of the stadium and the swimming pool is supposed to begin in July 2020 at the latest and the facility is supposed to be ready by 2023.

BelTA reported earlier that Aliaksandra Herasimenia has announced her retirement from the sport during a press conference held at the National Olympic Committee of Belarus on 7 August. “However, I will not abandon the sport. I have my own swimming club and I will do my best to share my experience with children,” Aliaksandra Herasimenia said
