MINSK, 24 March (BelTA) – President of the Belarusian National Olympic Committee (NOC) Viktor Lukashenko spoke about cooperation with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) during the NOC General Assembly in Minsk on 24 March, BelTA has learned.
The NOC head emphasized that the committee's sports diplomacy efforts in 2025 delivered tangible outcomes. “The wheels are turning: we have secured full participation of our delegations in key international competitions. Some of our representatives in winter sports have not only returned to the global stage but have also earned qualification spots, representing the country at the Olympic Games in Italy. This success calls for even greater consolidation of efforts in this area. Our athletes are qualifying for more and more international competitions, and our task is to win internationally, proving the strength of the Belarusian sports system.”
According to Viktor Lukashenko, the main outcome of these efforts has been a direct dialogue with President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Kirsty Coventry. “For the first time in a long while, we managed to hold a face-to-face discussion via video link. The IOC leadership acknowledged the constructive and stable nature of our interaction. We have agreed to continue high-level regular contacts and jointly develop solutions to the most pressing issues on the Olympic agenda. This shows that Belarus’ voice is heard and its views are taken into account.”
