Minsk might host maiden UEC Super Cycling European Championships in 2021

MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – The first edition of the UEC Super Cycling European Championships might be held in Minsk in 2021. The agreement of intent was signed by President of the European Cycling Union (UEC) Rocco Cattaneo and Chairwoman of the Belarusian Cycling Federation Natalia Tsilinskaya in the Marriott Hotel in Minsk on 17 January, BelTA has learned.

“Minsk has almost everything needed to host large-scale cycling competitions. The infrastructure is well-developed. Belarus will need to set up tracks for mountain cycling, but I am sure that the country will fulfill this task successfully,” Rocco Cattaneo noted.

In turn, Natalia Tsilinskaya said that hosting such a large-scale event will be a great responsibility. “It is important to set the bar high for future events, this is why we should rise to the occasion. We are not fully ready yet but we will do our best to hold the competitions to a high standard,” she said.

“Belarusians are used to seeing events featuring only Belarusian sports stars here. Now we may get an opportunity to see renowned foreign athletes. Trust me, they like visiting Belarus. Belarusian sports facilities meet the stringent requirements. It is a great honor to welcome foreign athletes and receive high assessment of Belarus' work to promote sports and healthy lifestyle in the country,” Natalia Tsilinskaya added.
