MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) – HC Dinamo Minsk have recorded its best regular-season performance in 18 years of play in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), BelTA has learned.

Ahead of the final game of the regular season, the Minsk club secured second place in the Western Conference, behind HC Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. This became known following HC Severstal Cherepovets’ 2–5 loss to HC Avangard Omsk on 19 March. The Cherepovets team played their final game of the regular season and remained in third place in the conference.

Dinamo and Severstal finished level on points, but the Minsk team finished higher due to a greater number of regulation-time wins. Finishing in the top two means that the Minsk side will begin the playoffs at home on 24 March. The Bisons will face the team that finishes seventh, with HC Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod, HC SKA St. Petersburg, as well as HC Dynamo Moscow and HC Spartak, all competing for that spot.

Previously, the highest position for the Minsk team in the Western Conference at the end of the regular season was fourth, a spot Dmitry Kvartalnov’s squad achieved a year ago. That season also saw them set a franchise record for points in a season (86), which has since been matched and could be surpassed in the current campaign. HC Dinamo Minsk will play their final game in the regular season on 20 March against HC Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg, with the faceoff slated for 19.10.
