FINA Swimming World Cup kicks off in Kazan

MINSK, 1 November (BelTA) – Nine Belarusian athletes will compete for medals at the sixth stage of FINA Swimming World Cup in Kazan, BelTA has learned.

Preliminary heats are scheduled for 10.00 (Belarus' time). The opening ceremony will take place at the Aquatics Palace at 17.30.

Belarus will field Viktar Staselovich, Anastasiya Koryakovskaya, Grigori Pekarski, Aksana Dziamidava, Kanstantsin Kurachkin, Artsiom Machekin, Ruslan Skamaroshka, Yauhen Tsurkin and Alina Zmushka.

Taking part in the competitions which will run through 3 November will be about 200 athletes.

The Swimming World Cup has been held by the International Federation of Aquatic Sports (FINA) since 1988 and consists of seven stages divided into three regional clusters (Middle East, Europe and Asia). Athletes are allowed to swim an unlimited number of courses, but only the best three results are taken into account for rating points.

This year, all the competitions of the tournament are held in the 50-meter pool and are qualifiers for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

The seventh stage of FINA Swimming World Cup is due to take place in Doha, Qatar on 7-9 November.
