MINSK, 5 December (BelTA) – Belarus and Uzbekistan plan to strengthen cooperation in physical education and sport, Belarus' Sport and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk said during a meeting with his Uzbek counterpart Dilmurod Nabiyev in Minsk, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Sport and Tourism Ministry.
The parties agreed to set up a working group that will develop a detailed plan for bilateral cooperation. “There is mutual interest in improving the quality of training athletes and coaches. Uzbekistan is traditionally strong, for example, in boxing, taekwondo, judo, gymnastics. It is possible that we will invite their coaches in Belarus. In turn, Belarusian specialists are ready to help Uzbek counterparts in training coaching staff in the sports where Belarusians succeed. The parties also reached a preliminary agreement on joint training of students in specialized universities,” said Sergei Kovalchuk.
The instruction on comprehensive development of relations between the two countries was given by the two heads of state during the official visit of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to Uzbekistan in September 2018.
While in Minsk, the Uzbek delegation visited the Belarusian State University of Physical Education. The guests got familiar with the educational base of the university, the organization of training personnel for the sport industry. They also visited the track and field athletics arena, the pool, the gym, trampoline and warm-up halls of the Belarusian State University of Physical Education. They were also given a tour around the new Rhythmic Gymnastics Palace and the National State Olympic Reserve School. At Chizhovka Arena, Dilmurod Nabiyev said that a new ice palace is being built in Tashkent. The facility will be used to develop ice hockey, figure skating, and speed skating. Uzbekistan is also building rollerski tracks and is interested in the relevant experience of Belarus.
