MINSK, 5 October (BelTA) – Belarus men's team secured a victory over Tajikistan at the 2018 Chess Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia, BelTA has learned.
Aleksei Fedorov and Vladislav Kovalev won their encounters. Sergei Zhigalko and Kirill Stupak ended their matches in a draw. Belarus secured an overall 3-1 win. The Belarusian team will next face Chile.
Belarus women's team of Olga Badelko, Lanita Stetsko, Natalya Kusenkova and Yana Ilyuchik drew with Slovenia 2-2. The Belarusian team will next play Israel.
The World Chess Olympiad in Batumi will be over on 6 October. Russia's Khanty-Mansiysk will host its edition in 2020.
Belarus won the bid to host the 2022 World Chess Olympiad at the FIDE General Assembly on 4 October.
