‘We don’t know who our minister is now.’ Why Europeans consider their politicians incompetent

MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) - The conflict in the Middle East has shown that the idea of globalism and so-called international law has failed spectacularly, Editor-in-Chief of the Words and Meanings almanac Elena Kondratieva-Salgueiro (France) said in a recent episode of BelTA’s YouTube project V Teme [On Point].
Elena Kondratieva-Salgueiro mentioned recent statements by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen that abandoning nuclear energy was a mistake. She recounted how, in its time, the French authorities destroyed this sector to appease “crazy environmentalists of punitive ecology”.

“This entire system is not just malfunctioning now; it is beginning to collapse, despite layered defenses. Everything is seething, and on top of that are events that no analyst can yet figure out [the conflict in the Middle East], let alone predict how it will end,” the expert said. “It took the European Union so long to admit they were wrong, that they got worked up over nuclear energy. Imagine how they could suddenly renounce everything and say they were wrong about practically everything.”

Speaking about the situation in France, Elena Kondratieva-Salgueiro noted that the authorities are convincing citizens they will not allow prices to rise, particularly for gasoline, due to recent world events. However, the French government lacks the actual authority to influence pricing in any meaningful way. This is similar to how European farmers were told about the importance of the trade agreement between the European Union and the South American bloc MERCOSUR. This deal was prepared for a quarter of a century, but in reality, European officials placed their own local producers in a vulnerable position.

“All these European governments... Look at Mr. Macron’s results, look at his government. Any of them, which change almost every two weeks. Journalists no longer bother to remember [the names of government members]. We don’t know who our minister is now, because we know that in two weeks, they won’t be there anymore. And who they even are, where they came from, it no longer matters. These are completely incompetent people,” declared Elena Kondratieva-Salgueiro. “Over several generations of socialist demagoguery, they managed to lower educational standards, but they didn’t calculate that later they would be taught and treated by the very people for whom they lowered those standards.”

According to her, there are currently no political figures in Europe of Charles de Gaulle’s caliber, only politicians. “The difference between them, as some very intelligent person said, is that a statesman thinks about his children and grandchildren, while a politician only worries about elections. That says it all. These are completely incompetent people who were placed here with completely different goals,” the expert concluded.
