MINSK, 20 August (BelTA) – The formation of an independent infantry battalion of the territorial defense forces of Baranovichi District, Brest Oblast began on 20 August as part of preparations of the territorial defense forces for the upcoming Belarusian-Russian strategic army exercise Zapad 2021, the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.
The recruits will be taught how to handle small arms and other weapons of territorial defense forces. Classes focusing on engineer operations, medical aid, and the fulfillment of territorial defense tasks will be organized.
During the exercise the battalion will work with regular army units to carry out missions, including the counteraction of illegal armed groups and sabotage and reconnaissance forces as well as preparations for and actual defense of a populated locality.
