GOMEL, 24 March (BelTA) – The development of the chain of electric vehicle recharging stations was described by Sergei Ignatyuk, Deputy Chief Engineer for Electric Technology of the Gomel Oblast energy company Gomelenergo, at a briefing held to discuss future development of Gomel Oblast’s power grid for the sake of integrating the output of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, BelTA has learned.

A program has been passed and is being implemented to develop a chain of EV charging stations in Belarus. “The number of electric vehicles keeps growing. For instance, there are about 3,800 electric vehicles in Gomel Oblast at present. Certainly, they need to be recharged. This is why two state operators have been chosen to develop the chain of EV charging stations – Belorusneft and Beltelecom,” Sergei Ignatyuk reminded.

New facilities to expand the chain of EV charging stations in the region are being built and designed in association with energy enterprises.

Sergei Ignatyuk said that a project to use electricity for mass transit had been implemented in Gomel. Superfast charging stations for electrobuses were built at two end stops in the microdistricts Medgorodok and Volotova.

The infrastructure of EV charging stations develops in parallel with the rising number of electric vehicles, including personal ones, the vehicles used by companies and organizations, and mass transit vehicles.
