Senator: We cannot be indifferent to plight of migrants trapped at border

MINSK, 9 November (BelTA) - The Council of the Republic will provide humanitarian assistance for refugees on the Belarusian-Polish border, Chairman of the Standing Commission on Education, Science, Culture and Social Development of the Council of the Republic Viktor Liskovich told the media when speaking about the situation on the Belarusian-Polish border, BelTA has learned.

"Today, the Presidium of the Council of the Republic had a meeting. The senators will go to the Belarusian-Polish border to study the situation, to see the conditions that the refugees are living in, and to provide them with all possible assistance. We will hand them the humanitarian aid put together by the Council of the Republic. The aid includes food, clothes for children and adults - the things they desperately need right now,” said Viktor Liskovich.

According to the senator, it is very important to solve any problems in society peacefully. “We never stand aside from problems experienced either by our citizens, or, currently, by migrants stuck on the border. These are people. We cannot be indifferent to their plight. About 3,000 refugees trapped at the Belarusian-Polish border are a reason to figure the way out and resolve the problem peacefully. People who want to get on the other side of the border should be kept warm and fed, and, of course, their opinion must matter too,” he stressed.
