Russian expert on buffer zone, new page in special military operation in Ukraine

MINSK, 15 June (BelTA) – The buffer zone represents a new topic and a new page in Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine. Sergei Karnaukhov, Candidate of Juridical Sciences, expert on the operation of special services, made the relevant statement in a recent episode of BelTA’s YouTube project On Point.
The expert noted that the creation of a buffer zone around Ukraine was one of the options for responding to provocations from the adversary. “We stopped coming into contact with the enemy in order to develop a response,” he clarified. "We no longer maintain this contact. We no longer need to respond to them because the adversary we face is a very complicated system that deserves a separate discussion. What we are doing today in the context of forming a buffer zone is being done very appropriately and in a way that no one knows about it. We know nothing about actions of our General Staff. We only learn with a slight delay what has been made public. There is no inside information, no deep strategic understanding from experts, and I think it is one of the main victories of our General Staff.”

Sergei Karnaukhov explained that unlike the USA Russia has no need to gather journalists for daily briefings so that they can stay up-to-date on events and receive information before anyone else. “Why? So that they can immediately report it to the adversary? We don’t want that!” the expert said. “This is not even the fog of war. It is a new format of war. And it is very good. Yes, buffer zones are being set up, and very active work is underway. I can say that the speed of advance of the frontline is also increasing. In the past we talked about the contact line moving by 10-20 meters per day, but now the speed exceeds 300-500 meters, and in some areas 200 meters.”

The expert emphasized that this speed of advance of the frontline is anything but slow. “The frontline is advancing across 1,500km!” he continued. “We are talking about the fiercest battles in Donetsk Oblast. We have actually completed the liberation of Lugansk Oblast. And the hardest work is going on in Kherson Oblast and Zaporozhye Oblast. Very active operations are also being conducted over there. And the buffer zone is a separate matter altogether. It is a new page in the special military operation. You have to understand that these are new territories. They are fully involved in the most active and heaviest combat operations. This is why every day we read in Ukrainian social networks that 10 populated localities and 15 districts are being evacuated. And these are huge territories.”
