Regional sustainable development academy set up at Kuleshov Mogilev State University

MOGILEV, 13 May (BelTA) – A regional sustainable development academy has been established at Kuleshov Mogilev State University, BelTA has learned.

The project to set up the academy was presented during the 10th international research conference to discuss problems of sustainable development of regions of Belarus and its neighboring countries held at the university on 13-14 May. The conference brought together representatives of executive authorities, leading higher education institutions of Belarus and its neighboring countries, and heads of the major companies of Mogilev Oblast.

For the past two years, Kuleshov Mogilev State University has actively participated in international projects in circular economy, sustainable development of regions, and environmental protection, Vice Rector Natalya Makovskaya said. “We are trailblazers in the field of sustainable development among other educational institutions, as no one else has adopted our practices yet. Setting up the regional sustainable development academy was another step forward in this direction,” she explained.

The organizers of the conference are the Belarusian Education Ministry, the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee, and Kuleshov Mogilev State University. The program of the event includes more than 100 presentations by participants from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, and Germany dedicated to sustainable development of regions, eco- and agribusiness, tourism, socially responsible business, and digitization.

“Everyone wants to live in a civilized world, breathe fresh air, develop the national economy, and earn a handsome salary. These priorities are important for residents of Mogilev Oblast and for all Belarusians in general,” chairman of the economy committee at the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee Dmitry Mudrogelov noted.

Following the conference Kuleshov Mogilev State University, VMG Industry, OAO Mogotex, and the Mogilev center for fire prevention works will sign a declaration to contribute to the efforts to achieve the SDGs. According to Natalya Makovskaya, the document will outline the prospects for the Mogilev Oblast development through 2035 and for digitization, green economy, and the region's social development linked with the progress towards the SDGs.
