MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) – More than 5,700 international students from 50 countries are studying at Belarusian State University (BSU), BSU Rector Andrei Korol told journalists, BelTA has leanred.

“There is strong demand among international applicants for studying at BSU. We do not accept all applicants based on their interview results: we do select only the strongest and most motivated candidates. The university has seen exponential growth in the number of international students, with more than 5,700 students from over 50 different countries currently enrolled. The top three countries represented are China, Turkmenistan, and Russia,” Andrei Korol said.
BSU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Education Internationalization Viktor Kochin emphasized that the university builds educational partnerships with countries that have strong mutual understanding with Belarus in other areas as well. “Among them are China and Turkmenistan. We are also expanding cooperation with new regions from which, for example, only one or two students used to come, but now the numbers are growing. In particular, we held talks with representatives of Myanmar and expect an increase in students from that country. We are also continuing negotiations with the Omani side to attract students from Oman,” he noted.
Viktor Kochin also touched upon the African region. “This is a strategic direction where we are also actively working. We are talking about Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and many other countries,” he added.

Today, BSU comprises 16 faculties, three educational institutes, six research institutes, and seven educational institutions. The university also includes 90 laboratories, 185 departments, three training and experimental stations, and four museums. The library collection contains around 2 million volumes. BSU employs more than 6,700 staff members, including over 2,700 faculty members, among them six academicians, seven corresponding members of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, more than 300 doctors of science, and 1,400 candidates of science.
