MP: Belarusian opposition ignored anniversary of Khatyn tragedy

MINSK, 22 March (BelTA) – The fact that the opposition ignores the tragic events in the history of Belarus commemorated across the country demonstrates that their activities are not spontaneous but staged and managed by foreign forces, member of the House of Representatives Sergei Klishevich told BelTA.

“Have you noticed that administrators of Polish and Lithuanian Telegram channels and other leaders of the opposition entirely ignored the anniversary of the Khatyn tragedy, which is an important date in the history of the Belarusian nation? In the past few days, they were busy promoting themselves, taking photos in various places of Minsk, and acting out protests so that they had something to show their sponsors,” Sergei Klishevich noted. “At the same time such events as the anniversary of the Khatyn tragedy or any other event related to the Great Patriotic War do not spark any reaction from them, any desire to show their sincere civic position. Not a single one of them brought flowers to the Khatyn memorial, although it is clear that even people with the opposite political views should pay tribute to such important events,” he added.

According to Sergei Klishevich, this is another proof that the ongoing controversies in the Belarusian society are not only about politics but also about values.

“The Nazi invasion and the heroic fight of our ancestors-partisans are empty words for them, because they are cynical enough to post photos with white-red-white symbols of the Nazi collaborators even around this time. For example, when the first allegedly spontaneous ‘solidarity' chains of women with flowers started appearing in the streets of Minsk on 12 August, we were told that they were a manifestation of people's public awareness and political activity. However, after they ignored the anniversary of the Khatyn tragedy, they showed once again that the activities of the opposition are not spontaneous, but carefully arranged and managed by foreign forces,” Sergei Klishevich said.
