Matviyenko comments on import independence, joint projects of Belarus, Russia

MINSK, 17 March (BelTA) – Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko assessed the anti-sanction efforts of Belarus and Russia and the joint course for import independence as she spoke in an interview to Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

According to Valentina Matviyenko, the two heads of state have repeatedly expressed the view that any restrictions were unpleasant, but at the same time they taught a lot. “We have once again made sure that both Belarus and Russia can do everything. We should not depend, especially in sensitive industries, on foreign imports. As for Belarus and the course of President Aleksandr Grigoriyevich Lukashenko, the results of the presidential election, which took place in January, and such a strong support of the Belarusian people in the president's re-election, speak for themselves. People see and appreciate,” she said.

Regarding the sanctions pressure, the speaker of the Federation Council presented objective arguments. “There are so many sanctions and restrictions, but in Belarus and Russia there is a stable situation. Our industry is in full operation. We have a stable financial situation. Unlike the Western so-called partners, we fulfill all social obligations. This is a sacred thing both in Belarus and Russia. They are actually cutting various allowances and support for citizens on a monthly basis. Our joint import substitution programs are relevant and very promising,” she stressed.

During her recent visit to Belarus, Valentina Matviyenko toured several enterprises producing ultramodern electronics. “Once again I got convinced that we still have so much untapped potential. The same is true about Russia, and our joint projects. We have made considerable progress within the Union State. We are import-independent in a number of important positions, including the production of machine tools, as Aleksandr Grigoriyevich [Lukashenko] said, electronics and other types of products that were easier to import before. Now we have come to realize that the sovereignty of the state has a very broad meaning, including technological sovereignty, industrial sovereignty. We are now implementing all of this, and the results are very good. Of course, there is still a lot of work to be done. But it is important that our governments, our ministries and agencies are actively involved in the implementation of the Union State programs, which cover all sectors. This gives us hope that we will move at an even faster pace,” she stressed.
