Investments in Belarusian health resorts up 1.5 times in 2020

MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) – In 2020, Belarusian recuperation and recreation facilities invested Br108 million in infrastructure upgrade projects, Director of the National Center for Recuperation and Health Resort Treatment Gennady Bolbatovsky told the media on 9 March, BelTA has learned.

Reduced workload and a forced hiatus due to COVID-19 unexpectedly resulted in something positive: Belarusian health resorts used this time to upgrade their facilities, make repairs and renovations.

“In 2020, Belarusian recuperation and recreation facilities invested Br108 million in infrastructure upgrade projects, which was up by 1.5 times year-on-year. Such investments were increasing steadily and reached Br78 million in 2019. We have seen significant progress,” Gennady Bolbatovsky said.

Even in this difficult period, this industry does not stand still. A new recuperation organization – OOO Riviera SPA – was set up at the start of 2021. As of early 2021, there were 306 recuperation and recreation facilities in Belarus that can accommodate 66,000 people, including 29,000 health resorts for 29,000 people and 200 recuperation facilities for 37,000 people.

“There are still enough sites in Belarus that are suitable for the construction of recuperation and recreation facilities: for example, sites near mineral springs or water bodies containing sapropel. These are long-term investments with good return,” Gennady Bolbatovsky added.

During the coronavirus pandemic, Belarusian health resorts have been taking all the necessary measures to ensure safety of their guests, he stressed. They ensure social distancing of their guests during their stay, require medical documents proving that arrivals have had no contacts with coronavirus patients, and regularly take guests' temperature. Health resorts also have supplies of personal protective means and antiseptics, which are regularly replenished.
