Facial reconstructions of Euphrosyne of Polotsk's possible relatives revealed

MINSK, 4 February (BelTA) - Belarusian scientists have reconstructed the faces of Euphrosyne of Polotsk's possible relatives as part of the new study titled “The Population of Belarus. An Album in Faces, A Look into the Past” which was presented in Minsk on 4 February, BelTA has learned.
“We have managed to confirm the hypothesis that the remains discovered in the sarcophagi on the grounds of St. Euphrosyne Convent could have belonged to representatives of the local princely family, the closest relatives of Venerable Euphrosyne of Polotsk. Last year we marked the 900th anniversary of St. Euphrosyne convent, and as a result of the scientific work we reconstructed the faces of possible relatives,” said Vadim Lakiza, Director of the Institute of History at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
The new publication was prepared by the Institute of History at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the N.N. Miklukho-Maklai Institute of Anthropology and Ethnography at the Russian Academy of Sciences. It is a fundamental work in anthropology, presenting a wealth of illustrative and research material about the population of the Belarusian lands.
