"On Point"
MINSK, 25 August (BelTA) – Ukraine was not the only topic discussed at the negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, Russian military observer of the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, Colonel (retired) Viktor Baranets said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“Putin and Trump discussed more than just the Ukrainian crisis during their meeting in Anchorage. According to my information, about a dozen and half issues were discussed there, like economic cooperation, joint development of mineral resources or the Northern Sea Route and the rules of its use,” Viktor Baranets said.
“They also discussed resuming air traffic and lifting sanctions on Russian property in the United States,” Viktor Baranets added.
The expert noted that another major topic on the agenda was the reduction of strategic nuclear weapons. Nevertheless, in his opinion, one of the most critical topics was the Ukrainian conflict.
“It is a good thing that Trump and Putin understood each other's positions by talking face to face. Who knows what advisors, diplomats, and so on report,” Viktor Baranets added. “This kind of eye-to-eye diplomacy is often the most efficient. And then the media twists it with rumors and bickering, making it hard to get to the bottom of it.”
