MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) – In the war with Iran, U.S. President Donald Trump is offering the Gulf states no real choice, editor-in-chief of PolitRussia, political scientist Ruslan Ostashko said in a recent episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
Discussing the new U.S. strategy in the war with Iran, Ruslan Ostashko noted: “A week ago, U.S. media leaked what appeared to be inside information that Trump had requested from the Persian monarchies a sum for continuing the conflict and a slightly smaller sum for ending the conflict. [White House Press Secretary] Karoline Leavitt is already openly stating this at press conferences, answering an absolutely pre-arranged question from a journalist – when he asks a very convenient question, she gives a very convenient answer – that the Persian sides will have to pay for this. So, this is not just a likely scenario; it is probably the only possible scenario at the moment. Trump is offering the Gulf states no real choice.”

According to the political scientist, the second alternative is to directly enter the conflict and fight on the side of the United States and Israel. “Imagining Saudi Arabia in an alliance with Israel is rather difficult for political and internal reasons. Therefore, the Saudis will probably find it easier to pay the Americans money to fight for them in a war that they do not need. But this will be the only somewhat acceptable way out for them, because the second alternative, I repeat, is direct participation by certain countries – first and foremost, they are counting on Saudi Arabia in this conflict, and that is definitely something they do not need,” Ruslan Ostashko said.
