MINSK, 23 September (BelTA) – Domestic travel is becoming increasingly popular among Belarusians, opening up new opportunities for the development of the tourism sector, Irina Voronovich, Director of the Tourism Department at the Sport and Tourism Ministry, said at a press conference titled Tourism in Belarus: The Path to Sustainable Development. New Initiatives, State Support, International Experience,” BelTA has learned.
Irina Voronovich pointed out that the hospitality industry is undergoing a steady transformation in the world. An obvious trend is the focus on domestic tourism. In Belarus, tourism should become a national project.
“This attention, this passion for your own country open new horizons and simultaneously identify problematic areas that need to be focused on," Irina Voronovich noted, adding that this refers to improving infrastructure and implementing investment projects.
The expert emphasized that Belarus is also a sought-after destination for tourists from Russia and other countries.
To promote travel within Belarus, several events are held annually, including the national tourism competition Discover Belarus, a social advertising competition, the campaign Travel. Feel. Get Inspired, a thematic international science conference, marketing research, and other initiatives.
