Aleksei Borisyuk
MINSK 31 January (BelTA) – Aleksei Borisyuk, a postgraduate student and member of the Council of Young Scientists of the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (BSUIR), told a BelTA correspondent what it means to be a scholarship holder of the special fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus for the social support of gifted students and what kind of support talented young people receive in Belarus.
Aleksei Borisyuk became a scholarship holder of the special fund this academic year. “It was awarded for my work in developing and establishing new morphological and optical parameters for plasmonic nanostructures based on porous silicon and silver. In simpler terms, I developed the concept and researched a method that uses electric fields to create pores within cells. This development can subsequently be used to sterilize surfaces and liquids, as well as to deliver drugs directly into living cells. Among its potential applications is the treatment of malignant neoplasms,” said Aleksei Borisyuk.
The young man gave credit for becoming the scholarship holder to his research supervisor, Anna Bondarenko, who recommended he apply. “I was very surprised when I was awarded this scholarship. I know that outstanding researchers from across the country are selected, and when you see your name on that list, it evokes indescribable feelings and gives you motivation to keep moving forward. I am glad it turned out this way, and I will continue to work on my project for the benefit of my country,” emphasized the scholarship holder.
Anton Slizhov, a 4th-year student majoring in E-Business Economics at the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics, became a scholarship holder of the special fund in the middle of his 2nd year. “I have always maintained academic excellence, consistently achieving grades of 9 and 10. I also actively participate in university research and social initiatives, which has included contributing to various research projects and writing articles. In my role as the university’s cultural organizer, I lead a team in planning festivals, securing competition wins, and fostering creative projects. Additionally, I direct theatrical productions and concerts, as well as write scripts. In short, I strive to develop myself to the fullest, both professionally and within my research and public life,” said the student.
Anton Slizhov believes that being a scholarship holder of the President’s special fund is an honor. “I remember the joy I felt upon learning I had received this scholarship. It represents crucial support for gifted students. Firstly, there is a tangible financial benefit, as it is the only scholarship awarded in addition to the standard stipend. Furthermore, it is a mark of recognition. It is gratifying to be among the select few at your university to be afforded this opportunity. Even now, seeing my name on the list brings a sense of happiness. Additional advantages include access to preferential housing loans, and there are likely further opportunities I have yet to explore in detail. Collectively, this constitutes substantive support for talented young people,” stated the scholarship holder.
