MINSK, 24 March (BelTA) – Belarus and the United States are gradually resetting the logic of their bilateral relations, Nikita Belenchenko, Director of the Center for International Studies at the Faculty of International Relations of BSU said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“If we look at the Belarus-USA negotiations in a broad context, it becomes clear that we are not talking about one-off diplomatic activity. We are talking about a gradual reset of the entire logic of bilateral relations. The meetings between the president of Belarus and the U.S. special envoy are becoming regular, and episodes are turning into a sustained process,” Nikita Belenchenko said.
The expert believes that the face-to-face meetings between the Belarusian head of state and U.S. representatives were preceded by lengthy behind-the-scenes negotiations. “Now both Belarus and the USA are beginning to explain to the public and to other countries what really lies behind these negotiations,” he said.
Nikita Belenchenko emphasized that in the Belarus-USA negotiations, Minsk’s allies, such as Moscow and Beijing, are being kept out of the equation: “We are not playing against anyone; we are trying to build bilateral relations. Moreover, if our position aligns with that of our geopolitical partners, we are ready to work together. Including on conflict resolution issues.”
